Awareness session on breast and cervical cancer

3 April 2023: Breast cancer and cervical cancer are two of the most common types of cancer affecting women around the world. Both diseases can have devastating effects on individuals and their families, and early detection and treatment are important for improving the chances of survival. Educating women about the importance of regular check-ups and self-examinations can help save lives.

One of the top priorities of SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh is to ensure good health and well-being of the children and youth in our care. To this end, in collaboration with Women Improvement Network Foundation, SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh organised an awareness session on cervical and breast cancer on March 16, 2023. The session was jointly conducted by a surgeon specialising in Obstetrics and Gynecology from OGSB Hospital and a Medical Officer from Savar Municipality. 30 individuals, including children, young people, SOS mothers, aunts, and coworkers from one programme location attended this awareness session. Symptoms, causes, remedies, prevention, and vaccination of breast and cervical cancer were discussed among the participants. Prevention was given priority over treatment. This awareness session helped the participants comprehend the risk factors of breast and cervical cancer and motivated them to make lifestyle changes that could decrease the risk of developing cancer as well as the fear and stigma associated with these diseases.
